Day 3 last years sci-fi week

day3a

Legend of the Seeker Babes

I did love this show when it was on, come on, it had Charisma Carpenter and so so so many more sexy girls in shiny leather. I was in heaven.

day3b

Lucy Lawless

Another heroine of mine, I was watching Xena every sunday morning religiously. OK, mainly I watched it for her sidekick Garbrielle. I was truly and utterly in love with both Xena and Gabrielle.

Sexy Julie Strain

horror_post_banner juliesOne of the few stars I have actually meet, was working for a game developer company and on our geek trip to E3 in Los Angeles, she was doing some autographs, have a picture with me and her (she is tall as hell… I look like a midget beside her), but such a nice person. Julie Strain, with credits on more than 90 movies and videotapes, has been called "Queen of the B Movies". She is a genuine cult heroine. Her series of action/adventure and fantasy movies have earned her a fan base that many mainstream stars envy. She is a star attraction of calendars, posters and greeting cards.

A favourite of mine is the many Heavy Metal covers she has posed for.

Fuck me, Ray Bradbury

I do like this video, always good to see sci-fi love for one of the greatest authors but he has disappointed me in the latest day with his rant “We have too many cellphones. We’ve got too many Internets. We have got to get rid of those machines. We have too many machines now.”  Ehh, what a…

Bradbury wrote darkly about bookburning in "Fahrenheit 451," but he sounds ready to use a Kindle for kindling. “I was approached three times during the last year by Internet companies wanting to put my books" on an electronic reading device, he said. "I said to Yahoo, ‘Prick up your ears and go to hell.’ " I just couldn’t belive it, I’m not a big fan of E-readers either, want my paper books but still anything to get people to read is great so his response is kinda out there.

Still enjoy the video won’t ya.

My movie weekend is sorted

Oh boy, I so got my work cut out for me this weekend, got delivered home today a lovely set of DVDs to enjoy and I truly mean enjoy, some of the best and worst movies in a nice mix, my flatmate didn’t look to pleased but I will make her enjoy the awesomeness of these movies. Damn, I need to find myself a geeky girlfriend soon to enjoy these things with.  Any takers?

10674-largeThis one needs no introduction at all I think. Just such an inspiring movie. The biggest-budgeted movie ever produced at Germany’s UFA, Fritz Lang’s gargantuan Metropolis consumed resources that would have yielded upwards of 20 conventional features, more than half the studio’s entire annual production budget. And if it didn’t make a profit at the time — indeed, it nearly bankrupted the studio — the film added an indelible array of images and ideas to cinema, and has endured across the many decades since its release.

And Zsa Zsa Gabor in skimpy outfit                  Jack, jack, jack…. I just love this movie.
doesn’t sounds so bad in                                         This novel based movie was made for him.
Queen Of Outer space

Surprise me, not sure about this one.              The storyline is weak but it’s Cab!

63228-large                    101817-large

Also remember that I did like this one as a kid but can’t remember that the Son of Kong looked so much like a doofus…

sok202

Remembered that I thought Donovan’s
Brain was excellent when I first saw it as a
15 year old, here’s hoping I wasn’t a lousy            This purchase is just because of
movie fan back then… :D                                           John Carradine, big fan….

152473-large                      152479-large 152842-large

Ok, this is probably my weakest purchase but couldn’t help it when I read the story ‘Olaf and his mother run a boarding house, and a white slavery ring. They also smuggle heroin to keep the addict girls happy, so they do not try and escape. A young couple move into the house, and the evil landlords take a liking to the female. Don’t mess with THIS Dwarf…!’ Am so a sucker f0r proper bad bad bad movies.

Laughed out loud when I found this review:

‘this film is weird, terrible acting, terrible music but lots of happy teddybears. worth watching as it is so odd it’s kinda entertaining.’

Lots of happy teddybears????? anyway,

MY WEEKEND WILL BE GREAT!

RIP Frank Frazetta

frank_frazetta_1Illustrator Frank Frazetta, who was best known for his fantasy and science-fiction drawings, has passed away. He was 92.

Frazetta was famous for his works on paperback covers, movie posters and other commercial works, including those of the Conan the Barbarian series. The character became a cult favourite and later inspired a series of movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was also known for his illustrations of Edgar Rice Burroughs characters such as Tarzan and John Carter of Mars and not to forget Vampirella..

His style, which depicted muscular warriors and scantily-clad women often locked in combat with deadly beasts, became touchstones of fantasy and science fiction. I have so fond memories of this, getting semiclad amazon woman and art in one go as a kid was great. Sorry to see you go Frank…

escape_from_new_yorkHad to nag my brother for a long time before he allowed me to watch Escape from New York, he was afraid that I would be too scared and get nightmare and of course tell on mom and dad that he showed me this movie in that case.

No nightmares but do remember being so amazed by Kurt Russells quick-witted hero and so wanted to be like Plisken when I grew up but instead am a normal travel agent worker, not exactly the same but have kept my inner Plisken around :)

Sci-fi Week: Morena Baccarin (V, Firefly, SG: Atlantis)

morenabaccarinvtvseriespromomq032Morena Baccarin shot to fame as the space companion Inara on Firefly, and she had a popular reoccuring role on Stargate: Atlantis as the god-like Adria. She was rumored to play Wonder Woman a couple of years ago, before WB shelved the project.

And now we get to see her eat rodents as a sexy lizard in disguise! What could be better than that?

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith, whose Jane Austen mash-up has more than 120,000 copies, has signed two-book deal with Grand Central Press for a rumored $575,000, Publishers Weekly reported.

Grahame-Smith’s first book for Grand Central Press, which currently has no release date, will be Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The story is a loose sketch of Lincoln’s life with one twist—our 16th president is the world’s most skilled vampire hunter.

Riese – The new steampunk webseries

img_sypnopsis

The new webserie to watch out for, the first episode has now been premiered and it looks good. Steampunk based fantasy with some really good actors, the heroine has been in Sanctuary and a lot of Stargate actors are starring as well.

Check it out on their website.

Synopsis:

Riese is a world of moral ambiguity and political intrigue. A decimated land populated by characters from dreams and nightmares. Loyalties are ever in question, suspicion in the minds of all. The realm, however, was not always so cruel. Everything began with a peaceful nation called Eleysia.

The Kingdom of the Wolf, Eleysia was once prosperous due largely to the influence of Empress Kara and Emperor Ulric. This all changed when a coup d’etat, orchestrated from the shadows by a religious cult, brought about a total regime change. Taking the throne was Amara, the Empress’s cousin. A power-hungry tyrant, Amara immediately utilized Eleysia’s wealth and power to begin colonizing the world, crushing nation after nation in order to unite the people under one banner. Even as she assaulted the world, an ominous, enigmatic group clearly wielded power over her. Called The Sect, they purported themselves to be the official religion of Eleysia, and began to spread alongside Eleysia’s borders.
